Early Life & Career

According to CoinDesk, Meltem Demirors was born in 1987 in the Netherlands into a family of emigrants from a farming community in southern Turkey. Demiror’s proneness to taking risks is said to have been inspired by her parent’s story. When she was 10, her family moved to the state of Michigan in the United States. Even though this move impacted her greatly, putting her in a state of cultural shock for a while, she soon started reading history and philosophy, which helped her significantly improve her English.

She first joined Rice University in 2009 where she obtained a B.A. in  Mathematical Economics. Afterwards, in 2015, she graduated from the MIT Sloan School of Management with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Meltem has an extensive and highly impressive CV, she is known to have held many prominent positions in the finance and crypto sectors. As of May 2018, Meltem has been a Chief strategy officer at CoinShare

In addition, Demiror is a Guest lecturer at the MIT Media Lab and is a Lecturer for Oxford’s newest course on blockchain technology. Besides, currently, she is a Member of the Global Future Council on Blockchain of the World Economic Forum.

In the period of 2015-2018, she held the position of Director of Development at Digital Currency Group (DCG), a firm focused on building and supporting bitcoin and blockchain companies by leveraging its insights, network, and access to capital.

Prior to that, Meltem was a Program Coordinator at FinTech Sandbox and dealt with Corporate treasury at ExxonMobil.
